Kenya clinched its first medal at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, with Andrew Kiptoo Alamisi triumphing in the men’s 5,000m final on Tuesday night.
The race was fiercely contested, with seven athletes from Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Burundi tightly grouped at the final lap. In a thrilling sprint finish, Alamisi surged ahead to win in a time of 13:41.14, narrowly beating Ethiopia’s Abdisa Fayisa, who finished in 13:41.56. Uganda’s Kenneth Kiprop took third place with a time of 13:41.73.
Kenya’s Ishmael Kipkurui came close to the podium but finished fourth with a time of 13:42.27.
