Confusion has engulfed members of Full Gospel Mission Church in Njukiri Village, Embu County, following a failed attempt by a rival church to rebrand it.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when a young man was caught painting over the church’s name in preparation for the rebranding. Congregant Catherine Wanjuki, who was the first to notice the activity, said they confronted the young man, who claimed he was acting on orders from Bishop Jeremiah Musyimi of Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Embu Town.
The members of the church, which separated from Full Gospel Churches of Kenya five years ago, accused the bishop of attempting to take over the church improperly. Angry congregants called the police, leading to both parties being summoned to record statements as investigations continue.
Bishop Musyimi, when contacted, dismissed the claims as unfounded propaganda. This incident has sparked controversy, leaving the congregation and local community uncertain about the real intentions behind the attempted rebranding.
