Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has urged county leaders to put an end to political infighting and instead prioritize development initiatives.
The county has recently been marred by political tensions and public disagreements between the county government and certain Members of Parliament. These conflicts have often played out in public, including during the installation ceremony of Catholic Diocese of Embu Bishop Peter Kimani, where leaders engaged in a blame game following heckling incidents targeting the country’s top leadership.
Senator Mundigi warned that such political squabbles threaten the implementation of development projects and hinder progress.
“No meaningful development can be achieved in a politically charged environment where leaders engage in public spats and blame games instead of focusing on the people’s interests,” said Mundigi.
He pointed out that the county suffered significant setbacks during the tenure of former Governor Martin Wambora due to similar political conflicts, resulting in underdevelopment.
“We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past. Leaders at both national and county levels must unite for the sake of progress,” he emphasized.
Quoting Amos 3:3 from the Bible, which underscores the importance of unity and agreement, Mundigi appealed to leaders to set aside their differences and work together toward common goals.
Speaking during a book launch by Bishop Samuel Nginyi of Redeemed Gospel Church in Runyenjes Constituency, Embu, the Senator urged leaders to maximize the remaining three years before the 2027 elections to propel the county to new heights of development by prioritizing service delivery over personal interests.
“Wananchi are not interested in who holds which leadership positions; they care about service delivery,” he stated.
Mundigi reaffirmed his commitment to preaching unity and peace, which he has championed since assuming office as Senator.
He also expressed confidence in the Kenya Kwanza government, urging residents to give it time to fulfill its pledges, as groundwork for development programs has already been laid.
Similarly, Governor Cecily Mbarire echoed Mundigi’s sentiments during the recent Jamhuri Day celebrations. She called for unity and support for the Kenya Kwanza government to ensure Embu County benefits from its development programs.
The calls for unity aim to steer Embu County away from divisive politics and toward a future focused on growth and prosperity.
