The fire at Moi Girls High School in Kibra has been successfully contained, with all students accounted for, officials have confirmed. The Nairobi City County fire brigade managed to control the blaze, which affected one dormitory, and fortunately, there were no casualties, according to the Kenya Red Cross.
In response to the incident, the Kenya Red Cross has dispatched its counseling team to provide psychosocial support to those affected. Additionally, they announced that they will supply the school with 200 mattresses, 400 blankets, and 200 dignity kits to assist in the immediate recovery efforts.
“The Kenya Red Cross will provide 200 mattresses, 400 blankets, and 200 dignity kits tonight. Our counseling team will be offering psychosocial support services to those impacted by the incident,” the organization stated.
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris expressed her deep concern and sadness over the increasing number of fires in schools, including the recent event at Moi Girls High School. “I am deeply saddened and concerned by the recent fires in our schools, with the latest being Moi Girls High School in Kibra. My thoughts and prayers are with the students, staff, and parents during this difficult time. I commend the efforts of the Nairobi City fire brigade in containing the fire and the Kenya Red Cross for their support,” she said.
