Strategists allied with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now assert that they have sufficient numbers in Parliament to block any impeachment motion against him. According to members of Gachagua’s camp, should the motion be tabled, they are confident it will be defeated.
To succeed, President William Ruto’s opponents would need 233 MPs to vote in favor of the impeachment, a target they believe can be met with support from ODM, the party led by Raila Odinga.
ODM is the second-largest party in the current Parliament, and many MPs within the ruling UDA party appear to be aligning themselves with the President.
However, it is speculated that a significant number of MPs, particularly from Mt. Kenya and Nakuru County, may avoid participating in such a vote due to fears of political repercussions and possible hostility from their constituents.
