National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary nominee, John Mbadi, has stated that the withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024 should not be cause for concern. He emphasized that the government has alternative methods for revenue collection that do not require reintroducing the entire bill, which faced widespread public opposition.
Speaking on Saturday morning during his vetting by Parliament’s Committee on Appointments, Mbadi noted that the bill’s uncontested proposals could still be brought back to the House for individual legislation.
According to Mbadi, some of these proposals could help restore the country’s economic status and are viable on their own, without being tied to the more unpopular provisions that many Kenyans found burdensome.
