The Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association has strongly criticized the recent removal of security provided to Justice Lawrence Mugambi.
They described the move as an attempt to intimidate the Judiciary and undermine its independence. The association’s sharp rebuke was directed at acting Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli, who ordered the withdrawal of Mugambi’s protection shortly after a court ruling that went against him.
On September 13, 2024, Justice Mugambi sentenced Masengeli to six months in jail for contempt of court.
