The Kenya Navy provided free medical services to over 500 residents of Kwale Sub County during a charity medical camp held at Kinango Sub County Hospital. The event, part of the Navy’s preparations for its upcoming 60th anniversary celebrations, aimed to enhance access to healthcare for underserved communities in the coastal region.
Comprehensive Medical Services
The camp offered a variety of medical services, including:
- General health check-ups
- Cervical cancer screening
- Eye and dental consultations
- Blood sugar and blood pressure tests
- Body fat and BMI assessments
- Specialized consultations with physicians, surgeons, pediatricians, gynecologists, and mental health professionals.
Expectant mothers, children, women, and the elderly were among those who benefited from the services.
Civil-Military Cooperation
Brigadier Dr. Justino Muinde, head of Naval Medical Services, highlighted the Navy’s commitment to fostering strong ties with local communities through civil-military initiatives. Beyond medical outreach, the Navy has also undertaken projects such as borehole drilling and water tank installations to address water scarcity in remote areas of Kwale.
“These free medical services are part of our corporate social responsibility and a way to give back to society as we celebrate 60 years of service,” Dr. Muinde stated.
Local Collaboration
Kwale County’s Chief Officer for Health, Dr. Kitsao Mjimba, praised the Navy’s initiative and reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to partnering with stakeholders to improve public health.
“This outreach has brought essential healthcare services closer to our people at no cost,” said Dr. Mjimba, noting its impact in reducing healthcare expenses for residents in remote areas.
Community Gratitude
Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed gratitude for the opportunity to receive free, high-quality medical care.
“This activity has helped us greatly by providing free treatment and medicine,” said Mwanakombo Suleiman, a resident. “The services I was to seek at Msambweni Referral Hospital were provided here in Kinango, saving me time and money.”
Ongoing Commitment
The Kenya Navy has pledged to continue holding similar medical outreach programs in the future to strengthen its bond with local communities and improve access to essential services. The initiative underscores the Navy’s dedication to national service both on and off the waters.
