Kenya is gearing up for a full deployment of its security forces to Haiti, where a three-month-old multinational operation led by Kenya is working to curb escalating insecurity. There are calls for the mission to transition into a UN-mandated force, a move that would require approval from the UN Security Council.
In a speech at the UN General Assembly, President William Ruto announced that Kenya would deploy the remaining contingent of its police force, aiming to have all 2,500 officers on the ground by January next year.
“Kenya, along with other Caribbean and African nations, is prepared to deploy forces but faces challenges such as limited equipment, logistical support, and funding,” Ruto stated.
