Police in Narok have apprehended Musa Ole Sopia, alias “Olulunga,” a primary suspect in a string of murders and thefts reported in Narok and Ololulunga towns. Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare stated that CCTV footage captured the suspect committing violent crimes, including the recent murder of a 55-year-old Congolese watchman at Ololulunga trading center.
“We have ample evidence linking him to various criminal activities in this area,” said Ngare, noting that Sopia, dressed in the same clothing as in the footage, was also implicated in another assault on a person now recovering at Narok County Referral Hospital. Police believe Sopia leads a gang responsible for terrorizing residents of Narok town and Ololulunga, with two additional gang members already arrested and facing charges in court. Authorities suspect further gang members are still at large.
Commander Ngare urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing community involvement as key to dismantling the criminal network. He also warned against spreading false information, citing recent social media posts alleging an unfounded murder in Narok town.
“We will pursue those spreading baseless rumors that tarnish Narok’s image and cause unnecessary fear,” said Ngare.
Earlier this week, outraged locals blocked the Narok-Bomet highway at Ololulunga junction to protest the watchman’s murder. This incident follows months of unrest as residents express alarm over a recent rise in violent crime across Narok.
