Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko has called for a united effort between residents and security officers to tackle the growing problem of transformer theft in the county. Speaking during the 61st Mashujaa Day celebrations at Masii grounds in Mwala Sub-county, Ouko emphasized the importance of cooperation in ensuring security and protecting vital infrastructure.
“Security is maintained when residents and security officers work together. It is crucial that we unite to protect transformers across Machakos,” said Ouko.
She also encouraged residents to participate in tree planting efforts, aiming to contribute to the government’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. Machakos County’s target is to plant 300 million trees, and Ouko urged the community to play an active role in achieving this environmental milestone.
In her address, the County Commissioner highlighted ongoing government initiatives to support local businesses and entrepreneurs, including the construction of 10 new markets across the nine sub-counties. These markets are expected to boost economic opportunities for residents by expanding customer bases, increasing sales, and enhancing county revenue.
On affordable housing, Ouko announced that 222 housing units have already been completed, inviting prospective buyers to register for the homes. She noted that the project has significantly contributed to socio-economic growth in the region.
The Mashujaa Day celebrations were attended by officials from the national government, county leaders, and local politicians.
