Muguka farmers and traders in Embu County have come to the defense of Governor Cecily Mbarire, dismissing allegations of poor leadership and unpopular political decisions. They accuse her detractors of spreading propaganda for political gain while ignoring her developmental achievements.
Defense of Governor Mbarire’s Leadership
The farmers praised Mbarire for her efforts in addressing key challenges faced by the muguka farming community, particularly her successful intervention to lift the ban on the sale and consumption of muguka in coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale.
“She stood by us during our time of need, unlike her critics who were silent when the multimillion trade was threatened,” said Stephen Ndaraga, a muguka farmer.
Additionally, youth leader Nicodemus Muriithi highlighted Mbarire’s initiative to open new export markets for muguka, including discussions with Djibouti, showcasing her dedication to empowering farmers.
Response to Accusations
Mbarire has faced criticism for:
- Alleged support of an “oppressive” UDA government.
- Claims of plotting to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
- Challenges in the county’s healthcare services under the Social Health Authority (SHA) program.
The farmers dismissed these claims as unfounded, arguing that:
- The SHA challenges stem from parliamentary decisions and cannot be blamed on the governor.
- Accusations about Gachagua’s impeachment are baseless political rhetoric.
Development Milestones Under Mbarire
The farmers also credited Governor Mbarire with spearheading several development projects, including:
- The refurbishment of Moi Stadium.
- Establishment of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP).
- Implementation of water projects to address water shortages.
- Construction of a KES 700 million ultramodern market in Embu Town.
Call for Unity
The farmers urged Mbarire’s critics to focus on solutions rather than engaging in divisive politics, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to advance the county’s development agenda.
“Instead of blame games, we should all come together to support initiatives that improve livelihoods and bring progress to Embu,” Ndaraga added.
The defense from the muguka farming community underscores Governor Mbarire’s influence in addressing the county’s economic and social challenges, despite facing political opposition.
