The Nairobi Hospital has reassured the public that its services will continue without disruption, despite a looming strike threat from its doctors. In a statement issued on Monday, the hospital urged all stakeholders to dismiss any circulating reports of an impending strike.
“We want to assure the public that our operations are running smoothly,” the hospital announced on X, urging partners and stakeholders to disregard rumors about a potential doctors’ strike. The statement also expressed gratitude for ongoing support.
The reassurance follows a strike notice issued by the hospital’s doctors, stating they would halt new admissions. However, the doctors clarified they would continue attending to patients already admitted, in their private clinics, and for emergency cases only.
“The public is informed that no new patients will be admitted to the Nairobi Hospital,” the Admitting Staff Association said in their notice. The doctors indicated the strike was a response to a “governance crisis” involving the hospital’s Board of Management.
The doctors’ decision aims to pressure the board to resign. Meanwhile, a faction of the Kenya Hospital Association, which owns the Nairobi Hospital, has called for the board’s dissolution. They have organized an extraordinary general meeting scheduled for September 18 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi at 2:30 p.m.
