Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia spearheaded a street campaign in Narok town aimed at raising awareness about the Social Health Authority (SHA) program. The initiative, conducted in collaboration with county health officials and National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), aims to ensure all residents register for the health scheme to enhance access to affordable healthcare.
Community Sensitization on SHA
Addressing residents, Commissioner Lotiatia emphasized the importance of SHA as a replacement for the phased-out National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). He acknowledged the growing registration numbers but stressed the need for continued efforts to ensure no one is left behind.
“We are actively engaging with residents in all eight sub-counties, where committees have been established to drive registration efforts. Everyone should take advantage of this opportunity,” he said.
Health Benefits and Urgent Call to Action
Michael Ole Sadera, Chairman of the Narok North Council of Elders, joined the campaign, urging residents to register for the scheme, citing rising cases of chronic illnesses that are often expensive to treat.
“This initiative ensures affordable healthcare for all. Chronic diseases are on the rise, and this program provides a safety net for families struggling with medical expenses,” said Ole Sadera.
He discouraged politicization of the program, advocating for widespread adoption. “When the government brings such beneficial initiatives to our doorsteps, we should embrace them wholeheartedly,” he added.
Residents’ Reactions
Peter Kuria, a boda boda operator in Narok town, expressed gratitude for the SHA program, describing it as a lifeline for vulnerable individuals unable to afford healthcare.
“The government always prioritizes the welfare of its people. I urge everyone to register for this scheme, as it will ease the financial burden of healthcare,” Kuria said.
How to Register
SHA aims to provide every Kenyan with access to quality healthcare without financial barriers. Registration is straightforward: residents can dial *147#2 and follow the steps to enroll.
The ongoing sensitization campaigns reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring universal healthcare access, positioning SHA as a transformative step in achieving health equity across the country.
