A new initiative, Kiharu Fanikisha Programme, launched by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, is set to benefit over 1,200 youth and young parents in the constituency. Fully funded by the local National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), the program will sponsor beneficiaries to undertake short technical courses in local colleges and vocational institutes.
Key Details of the Program
- Courses Offered: Beneficiaries will study courses in hospitality, cosmetology, and driving, among others.
- Tuition Coverage: The NG-CDF will fully cover tuition costs, including issuance of smartcard driving licenses for those taking driving courses.
- Start Date: Classes will commence on December 16, 2024, in various accessible institutions across the constituency.
- Training Locations: To reduce transport costs, training stations have been distributed across the constituency for proximity.
Encouraging Self-Employment
During the launch at Ihura Stadium in Murang’a Town, MP Nyoro emphasized the importance of self-employment for young people.
“Self-employment is like a blank check; your skills and determination dictate your earnings and growth potential,” he said, urging the youth to use the opportunity to nurture their ambitions and create employment for others.
Yearly Initiative
The Kiharu Fanikisha Programme will be an annual event, with adjustments made to the course offerings to meet evolving community needs.
Testimonials from Beneficiaries
- Macharia Njoroge, a father of two from Mugoiri, expressed gratitude, sharing that financial constraints had previously prevented him from pursuing skills training.
- Maureen Wambui, set to study hospitality, celebrated the opportunity to pursue her passion.
“This initiative will finally enable me to pursue a course I’ve always dreamed of,” she said.
This program reflects a commitment to empowering the youth of Kiharu through practical skills, positioning them for self-reliance and contributing to the local economy.
