President William Ruto has appointed former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board, following the revocation of Ahmed Mohamed’s appointment. According to a Gazette notice dated January 17, Jumwa will serve in this role for a three-year term starting from the date of appointment.
“In the exercise of the powers granted by Section 7 (1) (a) of the Kenya Roads Board Act, in conjunction with Section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Aisha Jumwa Katana as the non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board for a three-year period, effective January 17, 2025,” stated the notice.
Jumwa, who was elected as the Malindi Member of Parliament under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in 2017, later aligned herself with Ruto’s faction after leaving ODM. She was initially appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Gender and Culture in Ruto’s first 22-member cabinet. However, she was among the 11 Cabinet Secretaries who were removed in the July 2024 reshuffle following the nationwide anti-government protests.
