Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has announced plans to expand the Kenya Communication Sports Organisation (KECOSO) to include more National Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as a strategy to address mental and physical health concerns among government employees.
Speaking at Transcom House, Nairobi, during an awards ceremony for the 2024 KECOSO games winners, Chirchir encouraged all government bodies to join the annual sporting event to enhance employee well-being and productivity, thereby improving public service delivery. “We are rebranding KECOSO to create an inclusive platform where all MDAs can participate, building a healthier and more balanced workforce,” the CS explained.
Chirchir emphasized the importance of sports as a counterbalance to workplace stress, referring to the adage “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” to underscore the benefits of regular physical activity for mental resilience and job satisfaction. Plans are underway to expand KECOSO beyond its current membership of three ministries—Transport, Information and Communications, and Maritime Affairs—by inviting all government departments and agencies to participate.
The Cabinet Secretary further appealed to potential partners and sponsors, urging them to support the initiative, which he believes will strengthen citizen services through a motivated and healthy workforce.
