Joshua Cheptegei shattered the Olympic record to win the men’s 10,000m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Ugandan athlete edged out Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi and USA’s Grant Fisher, who finished second and third respectively.
Kenya’s trio, Nicholas Kipkorir, Daniel Mateiko, and Benard Kibet, failed to make the podium. Kibet was the closest with a fifth-place finish, while Kipkorir and Mateiko placed 11th and 14th respectively.
Cheptegei’s winning time of 26:43.14 broke Kenenisa Bekele’s Olympic record and secured Uganda’s first gold medal of the Paris Games.
