Eugene Wamalwa has called for the dissolution of the alliance between Azimio la Umoja parties and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), led by Raila Odinga, citing Raila’s alignment with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Wamalwa, who heads the DAP-Kenya party, argues that Raila’s collaboration with the government makes it impossible for ODM to continue playing its role in the opposition. He claims that Raila has effectively joined forces with the ruling party, thereby severing ties with the coalition that once united them in opposition to the current administration.
“Just like in a marriage where irreconcilable differences can lead to divorce, our political partnership has broken down beyond repair,” Wamalwa remarked during a church service in Makongeni, Thika town. “While ODM is focused on supporting Zakayo, the rest of us in Azimio are committed to saving Kenya. We can no longer stay together.”
He went on to explain that ODM has become deeply integrated into the Kenya Kwanza administration, particularly with some of its members now serving as Cabinet Secretaries, making it impossible for them to detach from this new political alignment.
“Team Okoa Zakayo (ODM), we wish you all the best with the government. You’ve shared out ministries, and I hear you’re now eyeing Principal Secretary positions and state corporations. But we will stand firm with the people of Kenya,” Wamalwa added.
Wamalwa also voiced his frustration with some Azimio leaders who continue to act as though everything is fine, despite clear signs of discord. He pointed out that key leaders are beginning to distance themselves from the coalition.
“We must be honest with Kenyans—there are serious issues within Azimio. Martha Karua has left for Narc Kenya, and Peter Munya is considering leaving PNU. This is because, while some of us say Zakayo must go, others insist Zakayo must stay,” he said.
